bpi.visqueen’s recent £multi-million investment into expanding and enhancing its Ardeer manufacturing facility has been recognised at a recent national awards. The £14million investment was highly commended by judges of the Investment Project of the Year category at this year’s UK Packaging Awards.

The two phase project, which led to the creation of 40 new jobs, began with a £4million investment into the construction of a new warehouse and the addition of a back seam conversion line which is now being used to produce high performance packaging for the cement industry.

The second phase was subsequently commissioned in September 2009. Part funded by a Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) grant from the Scottish Government, this saw £10million invested into  the construction of two new extrusion halls to house several lines being transferred from BPI’s Stockton site as well as a brand new, state-of-the-art wide film line.

Capable of producing film up to an impressive 22 metres across, this new wide film line, thought to be one of the largest currently in existence, enables bpi.visqueen to utilise the latest innovations in wide film production technology.

Overall, the entire investment programme has also shaped bpi.visqueen’s Ardeer factory into one of the most advanced manufacturing facilities of its kind anywhere in the world.

Speaking of the award commendation, which saw the judges describe the Ardeer investment as ‘extremely impressive’, Alan Harris, Business Director at bpi.visqueen said: “BPI has a group-wide commitment to reinvesting back into its business and the investment at Ardeer is reflective of that. It was a large and long-term undertaking which has resulted in measurable benefits both for bpi.visqueen as a business and also for our customers and for the local community surrounding the factory. We’re delighted with our commendation and with the fact the project has been recognised by the judges of the 2011 UK Packaging Awards.”
